Convergence - race in the Telco industry
‘Convergence is one of the most important trends in telecommunications this year’ thus a forecast of A. Kederer, Leader Managed Services Colt Telecom.

As much as the race for convergence has great potential to bring a change in the telecommunications market: To stand out from the crowd in a market of standardised products has become a growing challenge for Telcos. There is a fierce competition going on, making fixed network providers with traditional voice services struggle for turnover whilst mobile network operators suffer from low margins and Internet providers increasingly penetrate the market.

The customer, whether private or business, surely benefits from the colourful bouquet of nicely composed service packages. ‘Internet, data services and telephony from one source’ are offered to him from all sides.

For the carrier the challenge remains the same. New and integrated services have to be implemented efficiently and within no time. Telcos being able to concentrate on their core business definitely are on the winning side.

Missing no trends - do you want to make your competitors successful?
With the collapse of BenQ Mobile an inglorious chapter of consumer electronics comes to an end. The manufacturer of Mobile Phones leaves the market by the closure of the company, which was a former branch of Siemens Mobile Phones.

The company was able to secure a strong position on the market – at times nearly every second mobile phone in Germany being sold was produced by it. After the sale to BenQ three months ago its insolvency now was officially declared on New Year’s Day.

Experts claim that the development of this mobile phone manufacturer is a symptom in consumer electronics. Some manufacturers often range among the top in the development of new mobile phone devices, which also prove to be solid. But many competitors get new developments into the stores much quicker by stronger marketing efforts and do often have a more attractive design. The insolvent company missed new trends like camera phones and clamshells and their reaction to requirements of customers was poor.

The collapse of BenQ Mobile will be of much benefit foremost for the competitors Nokia and Motorola. Thus the "financial times", January 2007 (http://www.ftd.de).

Tangens GmbH - Successful implementation on New Year's Day
Rather punctual to the beginning of the new year varioBill, which is a part of varioSuite™, was implemented at Tangens GmbH in Potsdam, Germany. This Mobile Service Provider experienced a replacement of its old system.
