Real instead of digital – 2nd conference of dimari GmbH
On October 8th, 2021, industry representatives from telecommunications met for a professional exchange under the motto “Telecommunications of the future – models and the new Telecommunications Act (TKG)”. This year, the Hessian Digital Minister was there for the first time with a greeting message. The telecommunications market is constantly changing and brings with it new challenges for carriers and municipal utilities. The focus of this year's Telco industry conference was on the major challenges for companies expanding fiber optics, especially against the background of the new telecommunications law, which comes into force on December 1, 2021. But automation with as little personnel as possible was also one of the central topics. Telecommunications companies also have to deal with the shortage of skilled workers. With the advancing FTTH expansion, network utilization through the provision of your own networks for competing companies is also becoming more important.
Note: Everyone observed the 3-G rule.

Greetings from the Hessian Digital Minister
The Hessian Minister for Digital Strategy and Development, Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus, pointed out the importance of gigabit-capable connections in her digital greeting. The new TKG creates a regulatory framework for this. She wished all speakers and participants a successful conference day.
But how can you actually expand as a private company to cover your costs? What does it take to further retain end customers? The speakers presented their platforms and models.
Challenge of regional fiber optic rollout
Deutsche Glasfaser is the leading fiber optic provider for rural areas. As a pioneer and pacesetter in the industry, the group has been driving fiber optic expansion in Germany for more than nine years. The goal: a total of six million FTTH connections for private households, companies and public institutions. German fiber optics has already sold one million. Another three million are to be realized by the end of 2025 alone.
Kai Scholz gave interesting insights into Deutsche optical fiber's approach with his lecture “Challenge of regional fiber optic rollout”. The residents of the communities benefit from a precise preliminary analysis, state-of-the-art installation technology and connection directly into the house - fiber to the home is the central keyword here.
About Kai Scholz:
Kai Scholz is Business Director Wholesale at Deutsche Glasfaser Wholesale GmbH operates. The trained communications electronics engineer also studied communications engineering. He has worked in the telecommunications industry for over 20 years, including long periods in fiber optic expansion companies.
Deutsch optical fiber uses the varioSuite for its customer management and billing.
Wholesale platform and VDSL wholesale services / wholesale purchasing
1&1 Versatel operates one of the largest and most powerful FTTH networks in Germany. With the white label services of the wholesale platform, local carriers and municipal utilities with and without their own network market telco products under their own names. The business processes are mapped via the varioSuite from dimari GmbH.
These products can be sold nationwide. By purchasing L2-BSA inputs, households throughout Germany can be reached. Hüfken gave insights into these business areas at the 2021 Telco industry conference.
About Stefan Hüfken:
Hüfken has almost 20 years of experience in telecommunications. Twelve years ago he started working at Versatel as a product manager. Today he works in the area of wholesale and marketing of intermediate services.

Implement telephony offers without process changes with managed services
The heart of OpenNumbers GmbH is the Class V platform. All processes relating to telephony – number ordering, porting and subscriber management – can be mapped via this platform.
The white label solution is auto-provisioned or can be used for private and business customers. Using a simple API, implementation is easily done via the existing CRM system, for example the varioSuite from dimari GmbH. Modularly structured, customers only book the services they need.
About Lorenz Barth:
Barth is managing director of OpenNumbers GmbH and has almost 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. The trained software architect is responsible for technology and product design at OpenNumbers. He played a leading role in designing the company's own telecommunications network and also developed future-oriented advance services.
Together with OpenNumbers GmbH, dimari GmbH has published the case study “Automated self-service services for carriers”. For information about this, please contact Anett Kink at info[at]dimari.de.
Regulation and the new TKG
The new Telecommunications Act (TKG for short) also brings with it new challenges and rules for network operators and telco providers. This means that numerous changes will come into effect for the housing industry, and the rights of end consumers will be further strengthened.
Lars Weyerstraß went into the changes in great detail and drew comparisons to the existing TKG. In the area of customer protection, telecommunications companies must therefore adapt their documentation and invoices in more detail. The Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) defines the EVN (individual connection verification) standards. However, the laying rights are simplified and trenching is possible. On top of that, a database should be set up to identify “white spots” nationwide. Many innovations for carriers and telco providers are explained in detail in the presentation for the 2021 Telco industry conference.
About Lars Weyerstraß:
Weyerstraß is the founder and managing director of WeyTeCon. As a consulting company, our focus is on projects in the German and European telecommunications markets. He is a qualified engineer in electrical engineering with a specialization in communications engineering and technical acoustics.
In addition to his professional activities, he is active in the AKNN (working group for technical and operational issues relating to numbering and network interconnection). The AKNN develops recommendations for network operators that are intended to simplify their work among themselves. Lars Weyerstraß is also in demand as a speaker on regulatory topics.

FTTH pre-marketing
Finally, Diethard Kumpf gave an insight into the pre-marketing processes for expanding companies.
With the expansion itself, potential customers can already be contacted and identified as leads. With the varioSuite software solution, carriers map their entire network. An interface to existing network planning tools, such as Tannis and cableScout, enables status transfer of planned and completed lines.
If the area is connected, the sales processes can come into effect immediately. The standardized technical interfaces WBCI, WITA and S/PRi round off the product portfolio. Carriers who do not want to operate their own software can also use the hosting offer including order management and billing service.
About Diethard Kumpf:
Kumpf is the managing partner of dimari GmbH and has 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He worked for leading telecommunications and Internet providers in the areas of CRM and billing.
With deregulation he became self-employed. The aim was to develop a modular and effective billing and customer management system for new carriers. dimari GmbH has been working with small and large municipal utilities and telecommunications providers for 20 years.
Conclusion of the Telco Industry Conference 2021
At the end of the conference it was agreed that the TKG will give the entire market a new impetus and planning security. However, the challenge will still remain to develop remote or individual areas at cost.
